Texas Pastor Electrocuted During Baptism

WACO, Texas - A pastor performing a baptism was electrocuted inside his church Sunday morning after adjusting a nearby microphone while standing in water, a church employee said.

Lake was pronounced dead at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, nursing supervisor Pat Mahl said. The woman being baptized apparently had not stepped into the water and was not seriously injured.
Pastors at University Baptist Church routinely use a microphone during baptisms, said Jamie Dudley, the wife of Ben Dudley and a business administrator at the church.
"He was grabbing the microphone so everyone could hear," she said. "It's the only way you can be loud enough."
As I reflected on this incident, I was reminded of a theory about the future sometimes put forth by fundamentalists and other defenders of the inerrant truth of the Bible. When defending Biblical creationism, bible inerrantists sometimes acknowledge apparent discrepancies between observations made by scientists and the conflicting claims about the natural world found in the text of Scripture. Attempting to reconcile these differences, some Biblical inerrantists speak of a great day that is yet to come, when the truth of science and the truth of theology will meet at the same summit of human understanding.
This, obviously, was not that “great day.”

I can't believe the callousness of your post about my friend, father of three small children, and husband Kyle Lake. The news is not fictional accounts of make believe characters but the retelling of the lives of real human beings loved by many, sons and fathers.
Kyle was one of the good guys in the modern movement in America away from fundamentalism known for it's boycotts and political insistences. Kyle didn't entrust the poor and friendless to anyone but the Church. He knew the problems of this world stemmed from the condition of the human heart, of every human heart.
It's the heart, bent on making light of imperfection and death and sadness - as you've done here on your blog - that is to blame for any mess on this planet. It's the heart, convinced that all of life's a joke and the dirt is on everyone else if dirt even exists, that is the seed of all that's painful and unjust. Kyle spent his short life fighting pain and injustice with love, kindness, humor, and truth. He believed only Jesus can change the heart, that somehow believing in and trying to understand and live like Jesus transformed the human heart. He believed that only a restructured heart can bring something other than pain and injustice into the world.
That is who Kyle Lake was. A person making his life about something many of us see as eternally important and lating. Today his children and wife and friends mourn our loss because the world is truly a darker place without him here.

Ya know this is a really refreshing blog.
It's not often that one encounters someone who is so lost in his own delusions that he will revel in the electrocution of a fellow human being.
I congratulate you on your successful detachment from your humanity, you are indeed a fine representative of the "reality based" community.

oh mr. swiftee ! mr. bill is not 'reveling' in anyone's misfortune. it's called an 'example', a rhetorical point, yes, even the dreaded hyperbole - gosh knows evangelicals have a ball with every bit of weather phenomena that comes down the pike - well, back to my 'reveling' in the sty of Idiot America (see the November Esquire for that one) cheers !
